How to play
One person is the caller: they open this page, choose I call the cards and press Next card. Each card comes out with its own little verse, and the device can read it out loud. The other players open this page on their phones, choose My board and get a board of 16 cards. Every time a card on your board is called, tap it to put a bean on it.
Who wins
You can play for a line (a row, a column or a diagonal), the four corners, the four cards in the center or the full board: agree on it before you start. When someone completes it, they shout Lotería! and read their board code out loud; the caller types it under Check a board and sees the board with the called cards marked.
Our own cards
We drew our own deck in the same storybook style as our tarot cards. It has the classic Lotería cards, like the rooster, the heart, the watermelon and the sun, and the verses are written by us. Three traditional cards were replaced by the balloon, the tamale and the hummingbird.
Play from anywhere
Nothing is sent to a server: the board comes from its code and the beans are saved on each phone. You can play in the same room, or on a video call with the caller sharing their screen or reading the cards out loud.
Frequently asked questions
Can a card come out twice?
No. The 54 cards are shuffled at the start of the game and come out one by one in that order.
Do all the players need the internet?
Only to open the page. After that the game works on each phone, and nothing is sent anywhere.
Can I print the boards?
Yes. In My board, press Print to print your board with its code.
